The Great Wali Swat and Education in Swat
The Great Wali Swat, Mian Gul Abdul Haq Jehanzeb was a visionary leader who was in touch with his people and used to take keen interest in the day-to-day affairs of the state. His dedication for education led him to the establishment of Jehanzeb College which has been playing a vital role in disseminating knowledge. Before his reign, Swat did not have any established modem education system. His Highness laid the foundation of modem education and developed it in repaid succession. He founded Girls High School in Saidu Sharif, which was the first female educational institution in the tribal belt. Besides this, his majesty also established a school in Sangota for girls, which was the first school ever in private sector. It was his never-ending love for knowledge that he was given the title of Sultan-ul-Uloom (King of Knowledge) by the people of Swat and was awarded degree of LLB by the University of Peshawar. His Royal Highness was extremely desirous to equip the new generation with modern education. His Royal Highness used to deal strictly with the parents who did not send their kids to schools.
